My sixth book, Memoir for Margot, was created by Horse and Buggy Press out of Durham, NC. Translation: self published. Margot is my grand daughter. She was born after my son, Zafer died, so I made this book for her.
It's a lot of amateur artwork, photographs, and memories. When Z died I lost all interest in publishing/speaking/touring. It was as if I had lost my ego entirely. Instead, I cloistered myself in his bedroom--my makeshift garret--and painted, and wrote, and edited the illustrations of others. That's when I was not standing in line at the checkout at big box art supply stores.
Many glue sticks later, Memoir for Margot came into the world. I mailed copies off to friends
and family, burned through the first print run, did a second, and have a few copies left on the shelf. Even though it was not published "in the trade," I fondly think of it as "Book #6."
Nowadays I paint postcards for Margot, so you will still find me standing in line at the craft stores. Many of the painted images on this website are things I painted for her.
