Ten minutes before checkout was required, my negative COVID results arrived from North Carolina. I flew through an administrative, bureaucratic blur, getting photos of vaccination cards uploaded, a new appointment to cross at Peace Bridge, the works.
When I arrived on the Canadian side, (fewer cars than I have ever seen at the border), they handed me a home test kit and had me report to the Ft. Erie Racetrack to do a COVID test.
Got it. They are serious about fighting the pandemic in this part of the world.
The annoyance of the whole thing was vastly over shadowed by the joy of being home. As the white knuckled portion of the Queen Elizabeth Way faded into the four lanes of the 403, my anticipation rose wonderfully.
By the time I was meandering along highway 6 into Guelph, I was admiring the goldenrod in the ditches and excited to see the roadside sweet corn stands. I've traveled to this part of the world several times a year for the past thirty years, and there is no place finer when the sweet corn is on.
I am going to lollygag about in Guelph for a few days--visiting family and enjoying the cool evening air. Friday I head north to Lion's Head, a picturesque village on the edge of Georgian Bay. Let the sailing begin...
Great photo! I'm jealous of the sweet corn. The summer heat has turned NC sweet corn tough and gluey.
