Soundscape for Shakori

When I was a working as a metal sculptor, I helped Joel Haas move his studio from one side of Raleigh to another. He was grateful. And he gave me some of his dregs. You never want to be a piece of work in a metal shop that has not sold. If you are there is a serious chance that you will be cut up and turned into something else. Or sold for scrap.

In this case, Joel gave a frame to me, his volunteer moving muscle. Over the years I embellished it some, with my own bells and whistles, but it was more of a "fixture" than a piece of work.

When Amber came to me for an interactive sculpture that the kids could bang on at the Shakori Hills Festival of Music and Dance, Pam and I dug this one out of the weeds.

My problem is that I am a fan of Amber. And Shakori. She's the new director of the "Kids Tent." And she's got big plans.

Here's hoping this is a prototype that will work for her. She still needs to to sell the Board of Directors, and get a grant to build a proper soundscape, but Pam and I fished this one out of the woods at Summer Shop to give her a start on her vision. Lots of fun...
